There are more than 20 Game Reserves and National Parks in South Africa spread all over the country.
Located in the Western Cape are: Agulhas National Park an area around the southern-most tip of Africa with rich natural and cultural features; Bontebok National Park home to more than 300 bontebok and various other animals such as zebra, duiker and steenbok; and Karoo National Park with a wide variety of endemic wildlife such as black rhino, buffalo and black eagle.
Located in Eastern Cape are: Addo Elephant Park; and Mountain Zebra National Park, a sanctuary for the endangered Cape Mountain Zebra, but also home to various antelope species, caracal and over 200 bird species.
In Northern Cape are: Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park; Richtersveld National Park, a mountainous wilderness with splendid scenery, high mountains and dramatic landscapes crossing two countries on both side of the Orange River; Augrabies Falls National Park, about 120 km west of Upington on the Orange River; Mokala National Park, home to Black Rhino, Tsessebe, Roan Antelope, White Rhino, and Black Wilderbeest; and Namaqua National Park, home to the richest bulb flora of any arid region.
In the North West is Madikwe Game Reserve, regarded as one of the finest conservation areas in Africa, offering all the major species, including lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, both white and black rhino along with almost all the plains antelope. Pilanesberg Game Reserve is also located in the North West.
In KwaZulu Natal are the Hluhluwe-Imfolozi Game Reserve as well as the iSimangaliso Wetland Park. Furthermore there are the Ithala Game Reserve, overlooking the Pongola River with diverse geological diversity; and the Mkuze Game Reserve, with flat grasslands, fossil pans, wetlands and sand dunes.
Located in the Limpopo Province are: Marakele National Park; and Mapungubwe National Park. In Mupamalanga the best known of them all: the Kruger National Park.
