Sabi Sands Game Reserve

Sabi Sands Game Reserve is a 65,000 ha (650 sq km) private wildlife sanctuary which forms part of the Greater Kruger National Park. There are two rivers which supply the Sabi Sands Game Reserve with water. The Sands River flows through the reserve for 50 km from North West to South East, and the Sabie River flows on the southern boundary. This ensures that the reserve enjoys one of the highest and most bio-diverse wildlife populations of any area on Africa. Over two hundred species occur in abundance whilst the seasonally changing bird life provides even the most experienced ornithologist with rare finds. Almost 5% of the world's bird species have been recorded in this region of South Africa.

With no fences between the Sabi Sands Game Reserve and the game rich Kruger National Park, the animals are free to roam unhindered over in excess of 2 million hectares, making Sabi Sands one of the best wildlife destinations in Africa. The reserve is home to the Big Five and is in particular famous for Leopards, which is a main attraction of the reserve. Being a private reserve, guides and trackers are able to follow the animals off-road in order to get closer to the wildlife than is generally possible in Kruger itself.

There are many private lodges in the Sabi Sands Game Reserve, some of which are among the best and most exclusive in South Africa. The lodges all offer a fully inclusive rate, which generally includes all your meals, your accommodation, and morning and afternoon guided safari drives in open Land Rovers. Many lodges also offer bush walks with an armed guide, and some include all your drinks as well. Most lodges also offer thrilling night game drives which enable you to spot the reserve's nocturnally active wildlife.
