With the wide variety of marine life off the shores of South Africa the sailing experience is sure to include sightings of dolphins, schools of fish, seals penguins and perhaps some whales in the season.

South Africa's coastline is one of the most challenging in the world to sail, with relatively few harbours, frequent stormy conditions, and often very rough seas. The West Coast offers some of the best sailing in South Africa with more of an open coastline. Although there are only a few ports along the way, there are many anchorage spots.

There are yacht charters along the eastern coast of South Africa around Durban and on the southwest coast from Cape Town to Dassen Island.
