To rent a car in South Africa , you must be at least 20 years old (age may vary by car category, rental company and location) and have held your license for at least one year. Drivers under the age of 25 may incur a young driver surcharge. There is no maximum age. In South Africa , car hire regulations follow ordinary driving regulations. When leaving the car, always lock it, and do not leave anything visible in the car. There are 24-hour service stations with convenience stores, restaurants and ATMs at regular intervals along the major routes. However is should be noted that credit cards cannot be used to pay for fuel; only cash is accepted.
