The coastline of KwaZulu-Natal is a surfers paradise. The water temperature is warm all year round and there are some fantastic waves far and wide. The most consistent surf is found in the winter months from May through to August. In the summer the swell tends to be a bit smaller with pleasurable surf available at the many beaches. Some of the surf spots in and around Durban are at New Pier, Bay of Plenty, Cave Rock, St.Mike's, Umdloti, Ballito and Alkanstrand.
