Enter your destination in South Africa + "golf", or just "golfing in South Africa" to find golf courses:

South Africa's excellent climate makes golf a year round attraction. Virtually every town in South Africa has its own golf course. All together there are more than 500 courses in the country, and the number keeps on growing. Many of these courses are of superior quality, excellent equipped and surrounded by stunning scenery such as the crashing surf at the Wild Coast Golf Course, the Outeniqua Mountains at Fancourt and the wine farms bordering the Erinvale Golf Course in Somerset West.

Visitors are welcome at most courses, but it is advisable to call the club secretary and ask for a confirmed starting time and dress codes. Generally, jeans are not permitted on the course, and restaurants at golf clubs are usually casual. Brochures and books on South Africa's courses are available in most local book stores, or you can search on the internet.

Helpful hints & tips: • In South Africa, distances are measured in meters, to convert from meters to yards, multiply by 1.09. • Golf clubs can be hired from most golf courses. • Caddies are good value for money and range from ZAR 120 to ZAR 150. • Wednesday afternoons and Saturday mornings are generally for members only at Club courses. • When playing on coastal golf courses, it is better to play in the morning due to the wind. • When playing in higher altitudes such as Johannesburg or Sun City, take into account that the ball will travel approximately 10% further than at coastal golf courses. • Mobile phones should be switched off at all times on the golf course.
